03/29/11.- Beginning in mid May, Cap Cana Marina, the Caribbean’s newest sportfishing “hot spot,” is set to celebrate its annual Fishing Season for the third consecutive year.  Both national and international anglers are expected to participate, representing countries and clubs from the United States, Europe, South America and various parts of the Caribbean. Including, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Aruba, the Bahamas and Virgin Islands.   

The Puerto Rico Light Tackle Anglers, based out of the San Juan Yacht Club, will initiate the season with their annual tournament May 25 -28 at Cap Cana, focusing on the White Marlin species on light tackle.  The second annual International Cap Cana Billfish shootout, formerly of La Guiara, VZ, will immediately follow from May 31 – June 5, this year with the support of the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism as the title sponsor.  This event now known simply as “the shootout,” continues to bring into focus the SE coast of the Dominican Republic as one of the most productive Billfishing destinations in the world, fronting the Cabo Engano or “Hour Glass Bank” in the famed Mona Passage, the body of water representing the convergence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.      
Cap Cana will also continue to sponsor its close friends and associates at Santo Domingo Yacht Club, for their annual Marlin tournaments at Cabeza de Toro:  "XLVI International White Marlin Tournament & "XXI International Blue Marlin Tournament, respectively.  The season will close with Cap Cana’s own signature event, The Cap Cana Classic, scheduled for August 11th – 13th.   

World renowned anglers Enrico Capozzi and Stacey Georgia Parkerson have also returned to Marina Cap Cana this year to continue their quest for world record Billfish “on the fly.”  2010 proved to be a very successful year for the pair, aboard the famous Custom Spencer Sportfish, “Spirit of Pilar,” named appropriately in honor of the famed Hemmingway boat “Pilar.”  Stacey captured the women’s world record for White Marlin on 12lb tippet, in Atlantic waters the first for any woman in angling history, as Enrico secured the world record for Blue Marlin on 12 pound tippet and released his 10,000th Billfish of all time, also a feat never accomplished by an individual in the history of billfishing.  Stacey and Enrico, accompanied by legendary Captain Bubba Carter and Costa Rican gaff man Pelon Ruiz, will continue their passion for world record fishing from the luxurious Cap Cana Marina facility in 2011, further making their case as two of the most decorated saltwater anglers of all time as recognized by the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA.).    Cap Cana continues to build on its young reputation as one of the most important, new sportfishing destinations in the world, together with the support of the prestigious San Juan and Santo Domingo Yacht Clubs.  Cap Cana Marina manager, Capt. Andrew New confesses, “The Cap Cana Fishing Season or Temporada de Pesca as we know it in the DR, was developed with our friends at Club Nautico in mind.  Without the support of local angling legends like Evelio Mederos, Ralph “Agie” Vicente of Puerto Rico and others at the impressive Club Nautico facilites in Boca Chica and San Juan, our success would be on a much smaller scale.  We owe a lot to those guys.”
