The 2011 Punta Cana Marathon is held with great success

03/30/11.- Last Sunday, the Tricana Foundation successfully held the traditional Punta Cana Marathon, where for the first time cash prizes were awarded.   

With a 6:00 AM start–off time for both the 10K run and the Half Marathon, runners followed a scenic route affording spectacular views of the PUNTACANA Resort & Club and PUNTACANA Village.

The kid’s race began at 9:30 in the morning with the participation of many children of three to thirteen years of ages.   

The races concluded to the satisfaction of runners and spectators alike, who praised the event’s high level of organization, the course’s design through beautiful landscapes, and the overall competitiveness of the runners.

RESULTS

10K Run
1. Juan Pablo Mota, age 35, time  40:26.9
2. Alexander Fernández, age 38
3. Bernaldo Zarja, age 60

The first teenager to cross the finish line was Endy Ferrera, who managed to place fifth overall with only 15 years of age. The woman with the best time, Laura Emily Ridge, 29 years of age, finished in eighth place.


Half Marathon
1. Rafael Cueto, age 46, time  1h.16:35
2. Antonio de la Cruz, age 40
3. Gregorio Martinez, age 39

The woman with the best time, Cristina Matos 47 years of age, finished in thirty fourth place.  

The awards ceremony was held in the Playa Blanca restaurant, where runners, family, and friends made a great ending to a magnificent day full of good sport.
